Carrie Makarewicz, PhD
Welcome to my website. I’m an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Colorado Denver. My research and teaching bridge planning, policy, and community resilience through an equity lens to improve the well-being of all individuals while protecting our planet.
Specifically, I examine the interactions among public investments, urban development, and public policy shape people’s daily lives and their life course through the combined effects of housing choice and affordability; access to jobs, goods and services; neighborhoods conditions; and unhealthy environments. Working across disciplines and sectors, I seek solutions in the areas of affordable housing, multimodal transportation, regional sustainability, public schools as community infrastructure, economic development, community development, community resilience, and disaster recovery.
