Valverde Movement Project
2020–present · Funded in part by a National Science Foundation Civic Innovation Challenge grant, with the University of Denver and more than 20 community partners

Abstract
The Valverde Movement Project (Proyecto Movimiento Valverde) began when residents, community organizations, the University of Denver, and CU Denver came together through the National Science Foundation’s Civic Innovation Challenge to reimagine infrastructure investments for community health and wealth in Denver’s Valverde neighborhood.
Our NSF-funded work, “Undesigning the redline and reimagining mobility investments to equitably link jobs, affordable housing, and services,” started with transportation and street safety: documenting the barriers residents face when walking, biking, rolling, and riding transit, and co-producing priorities with neighbors. The project’s holistic, neighborhood-based approach has since expanded beyond transportation and is documented through a series of bilingual story maps that the partners continue to update. The work received CU Denver’s COVID-inspired Pivot Award for Research.
